A2J Fellows

A2J Summer Law Student Fellows Program

The Tennessee Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission created the A2J Summer Law Student Fellows Program in 2020 to connect law students with pro bono opportunities. The Program was initially a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Commission learned that many law students lost summer internships and externships. The Commission and its partners launched the program so that students could work remotely with organizations dedicated to expanding justice.

Eighteen students at Tennessee law schools and a dozen organizations participated in the inaugural cohort. The projects ranged from creating various publications for courts and advocates to consult in domestic violence situations to developing informational brochures and a YouTube video for legal aid clients. Fellows also participated in virtual professional development sessions featuring many of Tennessee's equal justice leaders. The program continued in 2021 and 2022 as a response to the pandemic.

Participate in the A2J Fellows Program

Beginning in 2023, the A2J Fellows Program will move away from being a response to the pandemic into a standing opportunity for law students to provide pro bono services virtually across Tennessee. Law students will be matched with legal service providers, non-profit organizations, and government agencies for all or part of the summer. The professional development sessions will continue to be a premier aspect of the program. The ATJ Commission will recognize both law student Fellows and the organizations that host Fellows following the conclusion of the program.

Sign up to participate by Friday, April 28.
